2024 Paid Time Off (PTO) Overview

Sunrun believes it is critical that you actually take time off in order to rest and recharge to face the strong growth demands of our company.

Eligibility

Regular full-time and part-time employees whose position is below manager level (or its equivalent) and above are entitled to earn PTO based on their years of active service. Active service begins on your first day of work and continues thereafter unless broken by an absence without pay, a leave of absence or termination of employment. Temporary employees do not earn PTO (however, they are eligible for sick leave in applicable states).

Using PTO

You become eligible to take PTO any time after PTO has been earned; as your work schedule permits. You may use accrued PTO for any reason, including vacation, illness, to take care of family members or other personal matters. You will need to schedule your time off with your supervisor. PTO must be taken in one-hour increments.

Sunrun will not pay you cash in lieu of PTO (unless you have a PTO balance when you leave Sunrun). Sunrun’s PTO policy complies with state and local sick leave ordinances. If you expect to use PTO, you must provide reasonable advance notification to Sunrun. If you must use PTO unexpectedly, you must provide notice of the need for the leave as soon as practically possible. You may use PTO for preventive care for yourself or a family member, as well as for the diagnosis, care or treatment of your or your family member’s existing health condition.

PTO Accrual

PTO can accrue to a maximum cap. Once you reach the cap, no further PTO will accrue until you use some of your PTO. If you have a PTO balance at the time you leave Sunrun, you will be paid for the accrued, unused PTO. If you are on unpaid leave, you do not accrue PTO.

Regular part-time employees earn PTO on a pro-rata basis with regular full-time employees. For example, if you work 20 hours per week, you will earn PTO at half the rate of a regular full-time employee working 40 hours per week. You may not use PTO before its accrual. You will not be paid for any time in excess of accrued PTO. You cannot take unpaid days off if you have accrued PTO. Your use of PTO may run concurrently with other leaves pursuant to local, state or federal laws.

PTO Accrual Schedule

Your PTO accrual rate depends on your length of service and your location (please note that you do not accrue PTO while on unpaid leave):

Time of Service (San Francisco) PTO Granted Maximum Accrual
Through First Year of Employment 15 days (120 hours) per year 180 hours
1-5 Years of Service 18 days (144 hours) per year 216 hours
5 or More Years of Service 20 days (160 hours) per year 240 hours
Time of Service (Outside of San Francisco) PTO Granted Maximum Accrual
Through First Year of Employment 11 days (88 hours) per year 110 hours
1-3 Years of Service 13 days (104 hours) per year 130 hours
3-5 Years of Service 15 days (120 hours) per year 150 hours
5 or More Years of Service 20 days (160 hours) per year 200 hours

Other Time Off

Bereavement Time Off

Jury Duty

Volunteer Time Off

Military PTO

Note: These policies are not subject to accrual and are not paid out upon termination if all or some portion is unused.

Freedom Time Off (FTO)

Eligibility

Regular, full-time employees with exempt status (level 11 and above) are eligible for FTO. Sunrun expects exempt employees to act professionally and manage their workload to determine for themselves, based on their responsibilities, how much time they can reasonably spend away from the office for reasons such as: personal vacation, relaxation or personal or family needs. Because of the nature of our business, Sunrun cannot guarantee how much time you will be able to take away from work. Exempt employees do not have a set number of days that they are entitled to take off from work. Your manager must approve all time-off requests and Sunrun reserves the right to deny any request for time off.

Bereavement Time Off

Sunrun grants up to five (5) days of Bereavement Time Off to regular, full-time employees in the event of the death of a member of the employee’s immediate family. For a comprehensive definition of “immediate family,” please see the Bereavement Time Off flyer. Bereavement Time Off is not to exceed a total of ten (10) cumulative days in a calendar year.

If additional time is needed, the employee may request an unpaid Personal Leave of Absence or may request use of accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) or Freedom Time Off (FTO). If time off is needed to attend a funeral for a non-immediate family member or friend, employees must use PTO. This policy is not subject to accrual and is not paid out upon termination if all or some portion is unused.

Employees must contact their manager as soon as possible to notify them of the request for Bereavement Time Off. The request for Bereavement Time Off must also be submitted by the employee in Workday. For more details on Sunrun’s Bereavement Time Off policy and information pertaining to pay (i.e., holidays), please refer to the Bereavement Time Off flyer.

Volunteer Time Off

Sunrun provides regular, full-time employees with up to two paid days off (with a maximum of eight hours per day) in order to perform volunteer work. Volunteer Time Off can only be used for time missed from scheduled work days or hours and must be used for actual volunteer service.

Employees must provide reasonable advance notice to their manager and submit their request for Volunteer Time Off in Workday for manager approval. Work demands can take priority over the Volunteer Time Off request. Employees can choose to volunteer at the organization of their choice or work together with other company members on a team volunteer activity.

Volunteer Time Off is refreshed at the beginning of each calendar year and cannot be accrued or carried over into the following year. Volunteer Time Off is not payable upon termination of employment.

Leave Donation Program

The Leave Donation Program has been established to allow eligible employees who have a catastrophic illness or injury (for example, cancer, major surgery, serious accident, heart attack) to continue to receive income by requesting PTO donations from fellow employees.
