• Leaves of Absence

Approved time away from work for employees who are experiencing out-of-the-ordinary circumstances.

In general, leaves of absence are available to eligible employees for time off due to a qualifying medical condition, or to care for a qualified family member experiencing a medical condition.

Most leaves are unpaid, except some pregnancy and parental leaves, and some portions of jury/witness, military, and bereavement leaves. All leaves have various length limits and generally require certification for approval.

Not to be confused with paid time off PTO, a leave of absence is a way for employees who are experiencing out-of-the-ordinary circumstances to take time off work.

Additional information can be found in the Sunrun Employee Guidebook.

Other types of leave may include:

  • Birth, adoption, foster care (bonding)
  • Employee who is unable to work because of their own serious health condition (medical leave)
  • Military caregivers leave, active military duty leave
  • Jury/witness duty
  • Personal leave of absence
  • or other reasons provided under various laws

Eligibility requirements apply.

Parental Leave

Employees going on a leave of absence due to the birth or adoption of a child must contact Broadspire to initiate the leave request and provide necessary documentation. Parental leave provides you with job and benefits protection, but may be unpaid.

Paid Parental Leave offers eligible full-time employees with a period of eight weeks of paid time off to bond with their newborn or newly adopted child. This policy is only applicable for children born or adopted on or after January 1, 2022. Paid parental leave for bonding is not subject to accrual and is not paid out upon termination if all or some portion is unused.

Pregnancy Recuperation provides eligible birth parents on approved STD with “top-off” pay to provide 100% income replacement for the duration of their approved short-term disability (not to exceed eight weeks). Pregnancy Recuperation pay does not commence prior to the delivery date. After this benefit ends, Paid Parental Leave would grant up to eight weeks at 100% pay for employees to bond with their child.

Employees in states that are eligible for wage replacement must apply for the state benefit. It is the employee’s responsibility to contact the state or appropriate vendor to apply and provide the necessary documentation.

If you are in a state that does offer paid disability or paid family leave, you must contact the appropriate state or their appropriate vendor to file for that benefit.

Information on where to file for your state is listed in the disability or leave packet you receive from Broadspire, Sunrun’s leave administrator.

You must submit all final approved/denied paperwork from the state to Broadspire to receive any additional payments, if due to you.

As of February 2023, the following states have paid disability and/or family leaves: California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Washington. New states are subject to being added in the future without prior notice. If you need further assistance, please contact Broadspire at (888) 398-0079.
